Day Two Recap: Tacky Tourists
On a normal day at JCHS, students know exactly where they need to go for their classes, meetings, and extracurricular activities, and (most of the time) they never get lost. Today was a different story.
Armed with fanny packs and binoculars, decked out in Hawaiian shirts, khakis, sunglasses, and bucket hats, JCHS students were all searching for triumph in today’s Spirit Week competitions. And it just so happened that today, the Seniors found the directions to their first major Spirit Week victory.
In a day featuring the most games we will have all week, the 9th graders jumped out to an early lead, with Ben Lowenstein (‘26) and Raizel Mahgel-Friedman (‘26) calmly splashing one clutch bucket after another to win the 3-point contest.

The 11th graders were able to snatch a victory in the crossword competition, and the 10th graders eked out the closest JCHS Ping-Pong Tournament win in school history after an initial 4-way tie. But the Seniors were not to be denied. After Akiva Pelta (‘23) upset the Sophomores in a 1 vs. 3 showdown to win Dodgeball, Kat Hoffman (‘23) and Zoe Fones (‘23) beat Vegas’ odds and triumphed in the Grape Toss. Gaby Galinson (‘23) and Claire Booth (‘23) showcased their musical knowledge en route to a dominant Name That Tune performance, and Ezra Rubin (‘23) and Amir Cohen Simayof (‘23) showed that they stacked up well compared to the other grades in a riveting Connect 4 tournament. By the end of the day, the Seniors had ballooned their point total to 620, vaulting into first place by a margin of 40 points.
